PaperBlast Review

Pros: Original style, graphics and gameplay.
Cons: Gets boring, almost only challenges your reflexes.
Not 2Dcubes' best (no offence, I think he knows)
PaperBlast is original when it comes to design, graphics and gameplay. However this original gameplay is only a positive ting in given elements of the game. Most of the time you're better off just letting the ship rotate in the same direction. Changing this is only useful when there's very few enemies on screen. This leaves the user only with the challenge of avoiding enemies, and in this confusing mix-up of white shapes, that's either too stressing or too boring (depending on the players skills).
The right-click-weapon makes my computer lack, and could have been pre-rendered in some way, but that isn't a huge issue. The sounds are annoying but the music is just fine, although some might consider it a little too monotone - I personally think it's catchy. Whether it is a good thing that reflexes are such a determining skill in PaperBlast, is up to you. If you think of it as a quick little game, it can still be worth playing. Apparently it's pretty popular too.
I just think that everyone goes (way too) crazy when 2Dcube makes something, and this creation doesn't top Karoshi 1+2, Mubbly Tower, Frozzd or even Execution. So people - get at grip... To me it's just a regular average mini-game (I'm allowed to think so; I've rated 2Dcube-games before :D )...

Hey, nice review. The game's indeed just about reflexes, but also hand-eye coordination and mastering the controls.
Yeah of course, thisis just a minigame and not Karoshi 3 or Frozzd 2. ;) And I know the bomb lags but ehm.. i actually like that heh.
For me it hasn't become boring yet. When you get in the 20.000 range it gets very hectic and rewarding, almost in a trance-like state if you can play long.

2Dcube:
Thanks. And also thanks for keeping on making games. I see your point, I just guess PaperBlast isn't exactly to my taste. I considered whether to look at this as a random mini-game or to compare it with your skills. Is you should have noticed, I choose the last one, so the game (compared to other yoyo-games) is still very professional. It's just that people expect you to come up with something genius every time, and that's why; with great power, comes great responsibility :D
